Kathy Gin, the co-founder and Director of Immigrants Rising, wanted to help one of her education grantees avoid deportation. This video was made for the non-profit to help Karen raise funds GoFundMe. Karen Hernandez needed three thousand dollars to pay her legal fees. After Karen lost her son in a tragic accident, she was deeply depressed which eventually resulted in addiction and some time in prison.

She has since graduated from college, become sober, and is now an advocate for other undocumented people. I was deeply moved by her story and glad I could help someone continue to better their lives as well as help others. The Gofundme exceeded their goals and expectations. Karen is a catalyst for her community and I’m thankful to have met her.
